District Phonics Program

"This past year our 4K-2 literacy committee selected a systematic phonics program written by Fountas and Pinnell to be used in primary classrooms.  This is taught daily in place of the traditional spelling program because of the overall impact it will have on literacy.  Phonics lessons is a word study which includes learning about letters, words and how they work.  The study of phonics is a very important part of early literacy development.  We are implementing  a daily short intensive instructional time for phonics/word study that will help students understand how words work. Kids will use the knowledge gained through this instruction to help them read, write and spell.  There are opportunities through parent letters and other links to involve families.”
